AFTER SCHOOL
What we do.
The After School Program is the faith-based arm of Motor City Music Club. Our center in Detroit serves children in grades 1-8 every M-TH during the school year. The curriculum blends performing arts education with homework help, life skills, and mentorship in a Christian environment. Students are never required to participate in religious activities that make them feel uncomfortable, but are invited to explore the Christian faith and grow in their relationship with God.

Why after school?
There is a powerful moment when a child does something they once thought impossible. It might be playing a new instrument, mastering times tables, reading in public, or seeing their name on the honor list. We build toward that moment again and again so confidence grows and students move onto a path of long-term achievement.
Performing Arts
Each student chooses an instrument that they will learn through the year. Classes are offered for piano, guitar, bass, drums, and vocals. Students who complete the season earn rewards, including opportunities to earn musical instruments so that they can continue their craft.

Academics
All students receive homework help each day. Students also participate in a year-long curriculum that complements their school learning. Learning goals are incentivized, and children earn prizes as they progress through achievement steps. To help develop a college-bound culture, kids are grouped into teams named after colleges and universities and earn recognition for achieving certain goals named after collegiate degrees.
Teen Life Internship
Teen Life Internship is a year-long, paid, part-time program for high school students that teaches leadership skills through tutoring, music, and activity classes. Interns receive real-world job training, life skills training, and college preparation.
